The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 745 senior police officers and proper placement for five Commissioners of Police (CPs).
A statement by Mr Ikechukwu Ani, the Head of Press and Public Relations of PSC, on Wednesday in Abuja said the commission also approved proper placement for one Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).
He said the CPs affected by the approved proper placement and adjustment of promotion dates were Njoku Eronini, Afolabi Adeniyi, Taiwo Jesubiyi and Ogundele Ayodeji.
Ani said the confirmation date of Nwonyi Emeka, a DCP was also adjusted.
He said the commission treated 14 appeals and petitions, as well as nine pending disciplinary matters from dismissed and serving police officers.
Ani said the decisions were some of the highpoints of the 18th Plenary Meeting of the Commission, presided over by its Acting Chairman, Justice Clara Ogunbiyi.
He said the commission promoted two Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSP) to the rank of Superintendents of Police (SP) and 696 Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP) to Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSP).
The PSC spokesman said 47 Inspectors of Police were also promoted to unconfirmed Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP11).
He said the two newly promoted SPs were Yusuf Bello and Titus Obaji.
Ani said the reduction in rank of four Police Officers with six others given punishment of severe reprimand was also approved by the commission.
He said the commission reinstated six officers, retired two in public interest, promoted one, Emmanuel Eze from the rank of DCP to CP and retired him.
According to him, the commission reviewed the punishment of reduction in rank of Insp. Falade Kayode, exonerated him and restored his rank of ASP 1.
He said Ogunbiyi had commended members of the commission for their commitment and dedication to the work of moving the Nigeria Police to the next level. (NAN)
