The Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), has planned to upgrade three markets in an effort to boost economic activities in Sokoto State.
This is contained in a statement signed by RAAMP’s Communication Officer, Malam Nura Bello, and made available to newsmen on Friday in Sokoto.
He said the markets were located in Illela, Bidinga and Gada
Local Government Areas earmarked to be transformed to become international standards.
Bello explained that under the upgrade programme, markets would get amenities’ facelift such as toilets, lighting, improved access roads, storage facilities and water infrastructure.
Accoroding to the spokesperson, the gesture is aimed at enhancing agricultural development and stimulating economic growth.
Bello added that the intervention infrastructure would also cover facility enhancement comprising access roads, water supply, solar lighting, stalls and storage facilities.
According to him, RAAMP project management had held meetings with the stakeholders that included market management teams, local government officials, community leaders, consultants and the Federal Project Management Unit.
The communication officer added that the meetings focused on mobilizing stakeholders about the government’s intention to enhance and improve the already existing markets in the rural areas.
He urged the stakeholders to support authorities to ensure the project’s success and emphasized the importance of implementing sustainable plans.
Bello reiterated that the project would boost markets’ transactions, economic status of the people and assured that no trader would lose his space after the planned upgrade. (NAN). READ ALSO:
