Prime Football Club strengthened their push for promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League and kept COD United Football Club of Lagos, strapped in Nigeria National League relegation zone with a 2-0 home victory on Saturday.
Olabisi Olagunju’s header, and Adeyemi Adeyeye’s goal mouth sramble gave Prime a hard-fought 2-0 win over COD United, in a keenly contested NNL Week 4 game decided at the Oshogbo Township Stadium.
The Omoluabi Giants started the match as the better team as they settled into the match with decency and won a good percentage of possession as they pressed hard in the midfield and attack.
Olagunju headed home Hakeem Olalere’s’s free-kick for the opening goal past former Abia Warriors goal keeper, Onuoha Joseph, to send the impressive crowd into wide jubilation in the 33rd minute.
COD United defender, Joseph Kenneth, was sent off for rough tackling on Lekan Oseolohun at goal bound.
The Omoluabi Giants hunt for more goals did not pay off as Leigh Olufolahan and Alaji Rasaq, missed glorious chances to end the first half with a goal advantage.
And it didn’t take the ‘Believe and Achieve’ side much longer in the second half to make their home fans expect another scintillating performance as Adeyemi Adeyeye smashed the ball into the net from Leigh Olufolahan’s tailored cross to increase the tally in the 58th minute.
Prime enjoyed the better chances of the game and COD United best chance in the match arrived in the 77th minute through Oronsaye James whose close range shot was saved by goal keeper, Ayo Ojo.
Prime gaffer, Shina Afolabi, expressed happiness with the win over COD United and promised the team will build upon the win.
“Everybody is happy that we won, the fans are very happy that their darling team is back home, and we pray we continue our winning streak.”
Speaking ahead of next weekend game away to Go Round he stated; “We will take our match against Go Round serious, and by the special grace of God we won’t come back home empty handed, we are aware of the responsibility on us and we are poised to make the club great again,” Afolabi told PRIME FC MEDIA.
Prime are fourth on the log with 6 points from four matches and will next weekend travel to Omoku to be guest to Go Round FC at the Krisdera Stadium, Omoku.
