The Cycling Federation of Nigeria, CFN in conjunction with the Rivers State government have concluded plans to host the National Cycling Road Championship in the state capital, Port Harcourt on Sunday, May 21, 2023.
President of the CFN, Engr. Giadomenico Masari who disclosed this at the weekend commended Governor Nyesome Wike for approving to host a national cycling championship on the eve of his departure as part of his support for the development of the sport.
“This is good for the sport, especially the prize money which is the first of its kind in Nigeria’s cycling”, Masari said.
Winners in the four categories of the one day Championship, the CFN president said, will earn between N300,000 and N600,000 along with other consolation prizes.
The four categories are Elite men and women as well as Junior men and women.
Meanwhile the technical director of the cycling federation, Bashir Mohammed is expected to lead an advance party of officials to Port Harcourt during the week to mark the route of the competition and make arrangements for other logistics.
