Apparently stating the obvious, the Cross River state Health Commissioner, Dr. Betta Edu has passed a Vote of No Confidence on Nigeria’s healthcare sector, saying the poor state of affairs have made fight against Covid-19 pandemic a herculean task.
She also said that many Primary Health Centers in Nigeria don’t have cold storage facilities that will help in the distribution and administration of Covid-19 vaccines in the rural communities of Nigeria.
Dr. Edu who is also Chairman, Commissioners of Health in Nigeria, spoke on the topic ‘Setting Agenda for Health Sector’ on Monday in Channels Television breakfast programme ‘Sunrise Daily’.
According to her the distribution of Covid-19 vaccines in the country will be hampered by lack of adequate facilities such as the cold storage system where the new vaccines which required zero degrees Celsius condition will be stored before administering it to persons.
“It is unfortunate that most Primary Health Centers in Nigeria don’t have the facilities required to cope with minor diseases not to talk of handling Covid-19 cases. The necessary logistics are lacking too”, Commissioner Edu argued.
Also speaking on the same issue Prof. Oluwole Atoyebi, former Provost, College of Medicine, University of Lagos, agreed with the Cross River state Commissioner for Health’s position.
He called for the improvement of Nigeria’s Health Sector
