The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) on Wednesday urged Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ignore calls for the redeployment of Ondo State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mrs Oluwatoyin Babalola.
Mr Olaoluwa Adesanya, the Ondo State Chairman of IPAC, made the call during a news conference in Akure.
Adesanya stated that the REC was a person of integrity, saying IPAC had confidence in her to conduct a credible, fair and free Ondo State Governorship Election on Nov.16.
He added that INEC under the leadership of Babalola, had carried IPAC along in all the commission’s activities, as regards the poll.
According to him, the alleged connivance of the REC with any political party to subvert the November governorship election is false and cannot be substantiated.
“IPAC Ondo State has absolute confidence in the ability of the REC, Mrs Oluwatoyin Babalola, to conduct free, fair and credible election in the forthcoming Nov. 16, 2024 governorship election.
“IPAC, Ondo State Chapter, hereby unanimously passes vote of confidence in the Ondo State Resident Commissioner Mrs, Oluwatoyin Babalola, to carry out her statutory obligations concerning the Nov. 16 election.
“Security agents in the state should arrest hired political thugs that might disrupt peace, before, during and after the governorship election,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some groups in Akure and Abuja, during recent protests, alleged that the REC was biased.
The groups, however, alleged that Babalola could not be impartial in the conduct of the forthcoming poll in the state. (NAN).
