By Gracious Akujobi Kano Pillars goalkeeper Theophilus Afelokhai and three of his team mates- Promise James, Isaac Lote and Hassan Adamu were defrauded of N730, 000 allegedly by a Police Officer during the just concluded Super 4 tournament in Abuja.
The players were said to have released their ATM cards to a trusted ‘errand boy’ who was cajoled into releasing the said ATM cards to a police Superintendent identified as Tanko.
The Police SP was said to have confronted the ‘errand boy’ collected the ATM cards and threatened to lock him up in the police station.
Prompt News gathered that the Kano Pillars players who received the news with shock were said to have reported the case to Police station and the banks concerned.
It was learnt that a total of Seven Hundred and Thirty Thousand Naira, N730, 000 was alleged to have been withdrawn by the said Superintendent Tanko.
The breakdown of how much each player lost shows thus: Afelokahi lost Five Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira, (N550, 000.00) , James was defrauded of One Hundred and Eighty Thousand, (N180, 000. 00) ,while Llote and Adamu lost One Hundred Thousand Naira, (N100, 000.00) each.
Kano-based Pillars finished third place in the just concluded Super Four tournament and are scheduled depart for Ghana for a training tour ahead of CAF Champions League opener later this month.
