ABUJA – The leadership crisis rocking the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is far from being over as the erstwhile national chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff, attempted to forcefully take over the party’s secretariat on Monday.
Sheriff, in company of a couple of his aides stormed the party’s Wadata House secretariat at Wuse Zone 5, Abuja and attempted to force his way in.
However, he was prevented from gaining access by the policemen guiding the building while more security personnel were immediately drafted to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
Speaking with newsmen, Sheriff said he was at the secretariat to resume as the National Chairman, insisting that he remains in charge until all the cases that ensued from the crisis rocking the party are over.
Prompt News Online recalls that Sheriff and his national executive members were removed at the PDP’s national convention held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State recently.
The convention also appointed a Caretaker Committee headed by a former Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, to run the affairs of the party and conduct an elective national convention later in the year.
Also last week, the party’s Board of Trustees chaired by Walid Jibrin, formally handed over the affairs of the party to the Caretaker Chairman, Mr. Makarfi, in conjunction with the outgone National Executive Committee (NEC) represented by former Deputy National Chairman, Uche Secondus.
