Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have apprehended two additional suspects allegedly involved in the abduction of Mrs. Folasade Odumosu, wife of retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Hakeem Odumosu.
The suspects, identified as 27-year-old Agbojule Smart and 30-year-old Keleke Michael, were arrested by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police Special Squad in the early hours of Friday, January 24, 2025, as they attempted to leave Lagos State.
Their arrest was confirmed in a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja. According to the statement, two locally fabricated rifles, 11 live cartridges, and ₦2.25 million—part of the ransom demanded by the kidnappers—were recovered from the suspects.
Adejobi explained that the arrests followed the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to track down the fleeing members of the gang responsible for the kidnapping.
The suspects confessed during interrogation to being part of a four-member gang, two of whom had already been neutralized during previous operations.
The IG commended the operatives for their bravery and encouraged them to sustain their efforts in combating crime.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains steadfast in its commitment to reducing crime to its barest minimum and fostering peace across the nation,” Adejobi stated.
Mrs. Folasade Odumosu was abducted on the night of Thursday, January 16, 2024, by four masked men from her residence in Arepo, Ogun State.
Less than a week later, she was rescued during a joint operation involving Force Headquarters technical intelligence platforms and Ogun State police operatives. The operation culminated in a gun battle with the kidnappers in a swampy area of Ikorodu, Lagos State.
The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
