Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Police Command in Lagos State have detained a 27-year-old suspect, Ada Joseph, for allegedly stealing a car.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this to journalists on Thursday in Lagos.
He said that the suspect, an ex-employee, allegedly stole his former boss’ Toyota Camry 2013 model at 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday in the Lekki area of the state.
Hundeyin said that the police apprehended the suspect and recovered the stolen car in Alausa Central Business District, Ikeja.
“The suspect was a former employee of the owner of the vehicle. He was arrested on Wednesday with the black camry by RRS operatives acting on credible intelligence.
“Joseph stole the vehicle in Lekki and drove it to Ikeja where a buyer was waiting for him before he was apprehended around 11:00 a.m., ” he said.
The image maker said that the suspect had worked with the owner of the vehicle for about a year before he was sacked by the owner sometime in June 2024.
The spokesperson said that the suspect confessed to having duplicated the vehicle’s key before he was sacked.
He said that the suspect disclosed that he wanted to use the proceeds from the sales of the stolen vehicle to bury his embalmed father.
According to Hundeyin, the suspect has been transferred to the State Command for further investigations. (NAN).
