Bayelsa State Police Command Monday confirmed the arrest of Samuel Ogbuku, ex-Chief of Staff to former Governor Timipre Sylva over an alleged murder committed in 2011.
The State Police Commissioner, Hillary Okpara, who disclosed this, however ruled out any political undertone as being insinuated in some quarters.
Ogbuku, was said to have been arrested on Saturday at around 7.00pm along the Agudama axis of the State capital after attending the burial of the Father of the Former Commissioner of Energy, Maxwell Oko at Otuasega, earlier in the day.
There have been insinuations from friends and political associates that his arrest was politically motivated by the present administration in the state.
But, the police authorities attributed the arrest toa petition received by an unnamed person over alleged killings of some persons in 2011.
Ogbuku, is one of the loyalists who defected to the All Progressive Congress (APC) alongside former Governor Sylva.
Prompt News also gathered that he has been on the Security radar of the State Government for a long time.
Another aide to Sylva who visited Ogbuku at the police station, Col. Bernard Kenebai, had this to say about the arrest, “the name of the alleged murdered persons and the petitioners were not known to Ogbuku. It is all a ruse to charge him with murder and keep him in custody for about three months.”
