The Police in Lagos on Tuesday arraigned four men before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting a couple.
The defendants, Chika Onyebichi, 34; Austine Ukwuigwe, 37; Ikenna Okoye, 35 and Chukwunwendu Somitochukwu, 30; whose addresses are unknown, are standing trial on a two-count charge of felony and assault.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Prosecutor, Insp Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on July 18 at about 10 a.m. at Cross River Cluster BBA, Trade Fair Complex, Lagos.
Ekpo said that the defendants conspired among themselves to commit felony to wit: assault.
“The defendants assaulted one Udoka Ajaegbo, the complainant, by beating him with fist blow, which caused him harm on his lower lip.
“The defendants also assaulted the wife, Mrs Joy Ajaegbo, by beating her and forcefully removing the weave-on on her head.
“The offences contravene Sections 411 and 173 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015,” he said.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr N.A. Layeni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 each, with two surety each in like sum.
He said that the surety must be a company’s owner, with two years tax clearance.
Layeni adjourned the case till Oct. 3 for mention. (NAN)
