Mr Samuel Gwott, the General Manager of Plateau Express Services, says plans have been concluded to procure 15 more metro buses to boost intra-city transportation system in Jos and environs.
Gwott disclosed this at a Dinner with Business Community organised by the State Government on Tuesday night in Jos.
The general manager explained that if procured, the number of metro buses in the state would move from the 15 existing ones to 30.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalled that Gov. Caleb Mutfwang in May inaugurated 15 existing metro buses.
He maintained that the move aimed at easing the transportation challenges being faced by residents of the state.
“We are restructuring the transport sector of the state and kudos to our amiable governor for driving the process.
“Few months ago, we launched 15 metro buses to boost the intra-city transportation system within Jos and environs.
“Currently, 35,000 residents of Plateau, particularly civil servants, students and Perry traders are using these metro buses.
“Through this initiative, we have so far generated 300 jobs; it has also boosted existing business opportunities and created new ones.
“This is why the government has concluded an arrangement to procure an additional 15 of these buses,” he said.
Gwott also commended the governor for rehabilitating existing roads and building new ones, insisting that such a move had provided a smooth avenue for the buses to operate. (NAN)
