Plateau State Drugs and Medical Commodities Management Agency (PS-DMCMA), says it has created a drug information centre for reporting adverse drug reactions in the state.
PS-DMCMA Executive Secretary Mr Kim Bot made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Jos.
Bot, who is a pharmacist, said that one of the mandates of the agency was to track adverse drug reactions through pharmacovigilance activities to ensure that medicines were used in a safe manner.
The executive secretary urged residents of the state to either call or text any adverse drug reaction the experience to 08129999249, which has a 50 per cent discount for the call or text.
He advised the public to consider such reports as important, stressing that the information would assist the agency in documentation of such reactions.
Bot stated that the information gotten would further assist in safeguarding the people’s health and also helping the general public to know people that should not take certain medicines.
NAN reports that the agency’s main functions outlined in the law establishing it include ensuring the availability of safe, highly efficient, and effective medication.
The other functions of the agency include operationalising the Drug Revolving Fund (DRF), tracking adverse drug reactions, and promoting local manufacturing.
The agency is also saddled with the responsibility of establishing partnerships and collaborations with organisations and agencies. (NAN).
