Following threat of nationwide strike by workers of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) over unpaid severance allowances, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in Niger, has deployed 105 personnel to secure the three hydro electricity generating power plants in the state.
A statement by the Corps’ Public Relations Officer in the state, Ibrahim Yahaya, stated that the personnel were deployed to Shiroro, Kainji and Jebba power stations in the state.
According to him, “This is in line with the directive of the presidency through the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), and we (NSCDC) Niger State Command have deployed a total of 105 officers and men to oversee the security of all hydro-power stations in Niger State that were recently unbundled by National Council On Privatization (NCP) Headed by the Vice President Namadi Sambo.”
He stated further that the deployment of the personnel to secure critical national assets and infrastructure is a routine exercise.
Yahaya said, “The 2007 amendment Act (6) mandates the corps to maintain 24 hours surveillance over infrastructures, site and project for the federal, state and local governments”, urging the public to report suspicious movement around the plants to security operatives.
