A group of southwest politicians resident in the United Kingdom has taken a swipe at the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu over his comment on the proposed national dialogue.
Mr. Tinubu had been widely reported to have described the proposed national conference as a deceit.
The Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP-southwest) in the United Kingdom, Yemi Ayodele Ayeni, described the comments as “unpatriotic”.
In a statement, Mr. Ayeni said “it is very disheartening that the APC’s stalwart in Nigeria, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu has demonstrated a high level of hypocrisy and dissembling competence by criticizing the composition of National Conference committee by president Goodluck Jonathan.
“It is disgracing that a leader of an opposition party could be breathing cold and hot on a serious issue that affects the existence of the nation.
“Is it not shameful for him to have made an outburst upon arrival from a medical trip abroad when Lagosians were still debating on his failure to provide good healthcare during his two terms as the executive governor of Lagos state?
“For Asiwaju Tinubu to have ruled a cosmopolitan state for good eight years without a well equipped hospital that can attend to his knee injury calls for an answer from Jagaban of Borgu”.
The PDP-south west secretary commended President Jonathan for listening to the yearnings of the people by agreeing to convoke a national conference to deliberate on the future of the country.
The statement reads further, “Mr. President has written his name in gold by responding to the yearnings of the people on this initiative as there could be no any other effort better than this.
“Undoubtedly, Nigerians would have an ample opportunity to engage freely on issues affecting the nation and would apparently address the problems affecting the root and co-existence of various ethnicities in Nigeria. Mr. President must be commended,” he stated.
