As the Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal resumes its sitting on Monday, the Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has vowed to overturn the results of the September 21, 2024 governorship election, which saw the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Sen. Monday Okpebholo, emerge victorious.
The party’s position was outlined in a communiqué issued following a meeting of its leadership, including its governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo.
The communiqué, signed by the Secretary of the Edo State PDP Caretaker Committee, Hon. Henry Tenebe, and made available to Vanguard on Sunday, was convened at the request of the Chairman of the State Caretaker Committee, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi.
The communiqué stated, “After comprehensive deliberations on the party’s affairs and the situation in Edo State, the following resolutions were adopted:”
The party reaffirmed its determination to reclaim the mandate it believes was rightfully given to it by the people of Edo State in the previous election. It called for continued support and prayers from party members and the people of Edo State as PDP and its candidate progress in this challenging journey.
The meeting also expressed deep appreciation for the loyalty and commitment of party members and supporters across the state, urging them to persist in their support and prayers.
The PDP leaders raised concerns about the state of Edo under the APC-led administration, lamenting the significant setbacks the state has faced in recent months.
The party reiterated its unwavering commitment to the rule of law and constitutional democracy, asserting that law, order, and security are vital for the peace, progress, and development of both Edo State and Nigeria.
The party Chairmen unanimously passed a vote of confidence in the State Caretaker Committee under Dr. Tony Aziegbemi and in the party’s candidate in the last election, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, commending both leaders for their exemplary leadership and efforts in uniting and progressing the Edo State chapter of the PDP.
