No fewer than nine Agents of Political Parties on Monday walked out of the National Collation Center at International Conference Center (ICC) Abuja, alleging high-handedness and total disregard to their feelings by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu.
Led by Presidential Election Agents of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Dino Melaye and Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim of Labour Party as well as former Governor of Imo state, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, the Agents who addressed the media at the foyer of ICC, accused the INEC Chairman of colluding with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to scuttle the 2023 General Election.
According to Melaye, “the Committee of Political Party Agents decided to walk out of the National Collation Center, Abuja, because INEC is pandering to the whims and caprices of the ruling party (APC) by refusing to play according to the rules of the game”.
He said they do not want to legitimise the process by continuing to sit in the hall to watch what is going on, saying that they are walking out to make their points that they have confidence in the process any more.
Also speaking on the reason for the walk out, Ibrahim who is Labour Party’s National Secretary accused INEC of colluding with APC to sabotage the Presidential election, pointing out that the inability of the Commission to base the results being announced on the upload Polling Units results showed that something is not right.
Meanwhile, former Deputy Speaker of Federal House of Representatives, Ihedioha said INEC has not been able to take responsibility for the chaos that has trailed last Saturday’s Presidential Election.
He also alleged that there some places in Imo state where elections did not take place on Saturday but now churning out fake election results which he accused INEC of accepting.
Prompt News reports that no fewer than 10 other political party Agents had earlier asked the INEC Chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu to stay action on further announcements of the Presidential Election Results untill all the Presidential Election Results of last Saturday are uploaded in the INEC Results Viewing Portals (iREV) but when they were overruled they staged a walk out to drive home their points.
