Former Bauchi state Governor, Adamu Mu’azu has been elected the new national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The National Executive Council (NEC) of the ruling party at its 64th meeting on Monday ratified his selection after a motion moved by his governor, Isa Yuguda and seconded by the Senate leader, Victor Ndoma-Egba.
The election of Mu’azu, according to the Deputy National Chairman, Uche Secondus is in line with the provision of Section 47 (6) of the PDP constitution.
The section empowers the NEC to elect a new official should vacancy be declared as a result of resignation of an official. He was immediately sworn in.
President Goodluck Jonathan had met with PDP governors, leadership of the National Assembly and key stakeholders of the party on Sunday night.
At the end of the meeting which ended in the early hours of Monday, Mu’azu emerged the consensus candidate.
The new chairman is expected to complete the tenure of the erstwhile chairman, Bamanga Tukur, who was compelled to resign last week Wednesday.
