The National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Iyorchia Ayu, has commeded Gov. Douye Diri’s developmental strides in Bayelsa
He stated this on Monday, during the commissioning of a house, which will house the state-owned media outfits.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the media structure will be housing the state-owned media, which is Radio Bayelsa, Bayelsa Newspaper Corperation and Niger Delta Television.
According to the National Chairman: “I am very proud of Gov. Diri, it takes a man of singular commitment to do so much in such a time.
“Many of you who have governed states will know that sometimes it takes a governor one year before he finds his feet.
“But Gov. Diri came and stood on the shoulders of giants and because the ground was well prepared he hit the ground running.
“Today after only two years we are able to come here to commission several projects.
“This is how governors of PDP work. They work for the people, they don’t leave their states and go to Abuja as some of those other parties who abandoned their states and become chairmen of their party.
“Our (PDP) governors are elected with a mandate and that mandate is to work for the people they govern, for them governance is service.
“I wish to thank you for giving service to the people of Bayelsa State and I want to thank all PDP governors across the country for making the party process.
“It is your work that is giving confidence to the Nigerian people that PDP is coming back.
“After staying out of power for about six years, Nigerians now know that members of PDP, including the governors, are determined to serve and to unite this country.
“It is your work across the states that made it possible for the people of the FCT to give us such marvelous victory at the weekend.
“Under my chairmanship, I want to announce that this is our first victory, we won the biggest prize which is Abuja Metropolitan, Kuje and Bwari.
“We are determined to challenge the results in other councils areas,” he said.
In his address, Gov. Diri said he built the Media house following the love he has for media practitioners in Bayelsa.
The governor said he built the Media house because of the fire that engulfed the Radio Bayelsa building, the mast that fell, and the destruction by hoodlums during the court judgement that brought him in.
Diri said he named the building after a veteran journalist and nationalist Ernest Ikoli, who has contributed immensely for the profession.
He described Ikoli as one who fought also for the liberation of Nigeria, and the first editor of Daily Times in 1926. (NAN)
