An outspoken chieftain of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Katchy Ononuju has added his voice the growing call for the exit of the party’s National Chairman, Uche Secondus.
Speaking on African Independent Television breakfast programme Kakaaki on Wednesday, Dr. Ononuju said there is need to recalibrate the structure of PDP toward meeting the present political realities in Nigeria.
According to him: ” there is need to recalibrate the leadership of our great party PDP to meet with the demand of the present political equation. Those who demanding for the resignation of the Chairman have genuine reasons to make their demands and it’s in order so that peace will return to the party”.
Dr. Ononuju accused the PDP under the leadership of Secondus of not being vocal on the incessant killing of Nigerians across the country, pointing out that the spate of banditry, abduction of students and savagery in the land have also escaped the notice of the opposition PDP which should have been the voice of helpless Nigerians.
The Political Economist and former Member, PDP Presidential Campaign Council for the 2019 General Election insisted that the opposition party will not face disintegration with the present crisis bedevilling it.
He also disagreed with the notion that the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) is a better choice for Nigerians with the uproar in PDP, saying that those leaving the party are political undertakers who do not have the interest of PDP at heart abinitio.
Said he: “It is not unusual to have this kind of crisis. It’s better to happen now so that we can heal before the real politicking starts ahead of 2023 General Election. I am optimistic that the storm will soon give way and the weather will be peaceful again.
