President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday resumed peace talks with the aggrieved G7 Governors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja but the meeting did not achieve much.
Consequently, both parties agreed to reconvene after the Muslims and Christians Holy Pilgrimages which in November and December respectively.
On the team from the Presidency’s side were Vice President Namadi Sambo, chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT), Tony Anenih, Governors Godswil Akpabio-Akwa Ibom, Liyel Imoke-Cross Rivers, Ibrahim Shema-Katsina and Idris Wada of Kogi.
The G7 Governors were represented by Governors Babangida Aliyu-Niger, Abdulfatah Ahmed-Kwara, Rabiu Musa Kwakwanso-Kano and Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers. The other three Governors are in Saudi Arabia for Hajj.
Governors Liyel Imoke and Babangida Aliyu read a joint communiqué, stating that
“Sequel to the meeting held on the 15th of September and in line with the agreements reached at the meeting, the governors met with the President, Vice President and the Chairman of the board of trustees.
“The meeting which was cordial resolved that in spite of the unfortunate events that arose after the meeting of 15th of September, the parties remain committed to the resolution of the differences.
“The meeting agreed to continue to take steps towards implementing the resolutions agreed to at the previous meetings.
In view of the above some of the governors it was resolved that the meetings be reconvened shortly after the Muslim hajj and Christian pilgrimages are concluded.”
It will be recalled that the seven governors alongside former Vice President Atiku Abubakar stormed out of the PDP special convention ground on August 31 at Eagles Square, Abuja.
They later addressed a press conference announcing the formation of a parallel national executive committee under the chairmanship of Abubakar Baraje and Olagunsoye Oyinlola as National Secretary.
