PORT HARCOURT – A former Governor of Kaduna state, Ahmed Makarfi, has been appointed as Acting Chairman of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP at its convention holding in Port Harcourt, Rivers state.
Makarfi, also a former Senator was appointed shortly after Ali Modu Sheriff was tactically pushed out at the convention ground on Saturday. He is to serve in acting capacity for three months.
Sheriff, had in the afternoon announced the postponement of the national convention even after arrival of delegates at the Sharks stadium, Port Harcourt, citing pending court cases.
Surprisingly, the deputy national chairman, Uche Secondus, declared the convention open shortly after the postponement announced by Sheriff.
Interestingly, party bigwigs including the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu and the chairman of the Board of Trustees, Walid Jibrin have addressed the convention as at the time of filling this report.
Sheriff, also a former Governor of Borno state has been having a running battle with the governors elected on the platform of the PDP.
Meanwhile, the position of the national chairman may not be contested today.
