The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State has described as barbaric, callous and primitive the attack on the campaign office of the party’s 2014 governorship candidate, Peter Ayodele Fayose, at Adebayo in Ado Ekiti on Monday.
According to a press statement issued by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Kola Oluwawole on Tuesday, the party said such a naked wanton display of power by Governor “Kayode Fayemi’s killer squad” as they shelled Fayose’s campaign office with bullets, had never happened in the history of Ekiti State.
Oluwawole said when the convoy of Governor Fayemi was driving past the Fayose’s campaign office, some of Fayemi thugs led by the security aide to the governor, Mr Adesokan a.k.a Jaruul released shots at the campaign office without being provoked by four aides of Fayose who were rightly sitting in the inner room and did not know what transpired outside until they had gun shots directed at the office building.
Less than five minutes after the convoy of Governor Fayemi had driven past the campaign office, about ten of the Fayemi thugs on the convoy among who were Jaruul, Richard Apolola, Dele Owoju, Tope Longe returned to the campaign office.
Four aides of Fayose in the office at that time escaped death by whiskers.
Oluwawole alleged that the thugs who came into the premises were actually sent by Fayemi to kill Fayose because they were demanding that Fayose should come out of the office and dare them.
“This action of Fayemi is very absurd and he should never think that he has monopoly of violence”. However, the PDP has appealed to its members to remain calm, law abiding and never take law into their hands.
Oluwawole said, “Governor Fayemi should not dissipate energy on violence and vanity, rather should save his energy till June 21 when he will be booted out of office.”
