The wife of Jigawa Governor, Mrs Hadiza Namadi, distributed N100,000
each to 250 elderly persons in the state to improve their lives.
The governor’s wife said during the distribution in Dutse on Thursday that the money was shared to
people aged 65 years and above to cushion the effects of economic situation and alleviate the sufferings of
the elderly persons.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the money was distributed to the beneficiaries under the
Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS) with the theme “Better Days Ahead.”
According to Namadi, the distribution is an initiative of the Wife of the President, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu,
under RHIESS.
The governor’s wife also organised free medical check up for the beneficiaries at the venue, saying “I
organised some medical personnel to offer free medical services to the beneficiaries of the initiative
such as diagnosis and treatment of health issues peculiar to elderly persons.
“It is imperative for the state government to establish a comprehensive database that will capture the details
of elderly persons.
“This will enable the state government to monitor their welfare and provide the requisite assistance needed
to replicate more initiatives like RHIESS.”
The Commissioner for Women and Social Development, Mrs Hadiza Abdulwahab, commended the wife
of the president for the vision and dedication toward improving the lives of elderly persons.
Abdulwahab said the distribution would go a long way in meeting the basic needs of the beneficiaries
and urged them to make judicious use of the money.
She also commended Gov. Umar Namadi and his wife for their efforts in prioritising the welfare of citizens.
She urged other well-meaning individuals to emulate the gesture and contribute towards improving the welfare
of the elderly in the society.
She said “we must all work to ensure that no one is left behind, especially those who are vulnerable and
in need of our support.”
One of the beneficiaries, Adama Muhammad, commended the state and the Federal Government for the gesture, saying
it would go a long way in helping paying for their needs. (NAN). READ ALSO:
