The Oyo state government on Monday in Ibadan, trained and inducted 5,000 newly-recruited teachers and 700 non-teaching staff, with a charge to them to be professional in the discharge of their duties.
In his remarks at the occasion, held at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, Gov. Seyi Makinde declared the intention of his administration to continue training and retraining teachers, including providing all the necessary support they needed to carry out their duties.
He charged the teachers to always put the interest of the state first in the discharge of their duties and to see themselves as indispensable partners in the task of repositioning the state.
Makinde, who identified education as one of the pillars of his administration, charged the teachers to also be hardworking, explaining that whatever they did in their respective schools would definitely reflect on the overall performance of his administration.
“So, I ask you to partner with us, to continue to make the kind of progress we are making, so we will continue to train and retrain you and provide opportunities for you”, the governor said.
In his remarks, Mr Akinade Alamu, the Chairman, Oyo state Post-Primary schools Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) said that the process of recruiting the new teachers was free, saying that all the successful employees were recruited on merit.
Alamu appreciated Makinde for approving the training of the recruited teachers, saying that the training would go a long way in enhancing their performance.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that highlights of the occasion was the administering of oath on the inducted teachers and also a symbolic presentation of certificates of attendance to them. (NAN)
