The Inauguration Committee constituted by Abia Governor-elect, Dr Alex Otti, says preparations, including the renovation of the two main venues for the epoch-making event, have reached advanced stage.
The Head of Media and Publicity Sub-committee, Mr Kazie Uko, disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen in Umuahia on Tuesday.
Ukoh stated that the two venues currently receiving facelifts were the Umuahia Township Stadium and International Conference Centre, Umuahia for the swearing-in ceremony and luncheon, respectively.
He quoted the Head of the Venue Sub-committee and House of Assembly member-elect, Austin Okezie, to have reported that the massive work was being funded by Otti and his Transition Council.
“Work is seriously progressing at the two venues.
“So far, the cement and casting work at the second gate of the stadium has been done.
“Roof work has also been done, remaining the VIP area, where there are still few leaking spots and we’re working to remedy that,” Okezie reportedly stated in the sub-committee’s interim report.
He explainwd that the repainting of the two venues was also in progress.
“The replacement of all damaged flower pavements, especially at the stadium, which we didn’t take into consideration early enough, is almost through.
“I am hoping that by next week, we will have completed all the envisaged renovation work for the ceremonies,” the statement added.
Uko further stated that “a massive entertainment package” was being planned for guests at the stadium after the swearing in.
He further stated that a post inauguration luncheon would be served exclusively to guests at the ICC. (NAN)
