A former President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, has described the recent public outburst of Victor Osimhen against the then Super Eagles head coach, Finidi George, as a ‘moment of madness’.
Pinnick, a former CAF Executive Member and current FIFA Council Member, spoke on Wednesday while featuring as a guest on Arise News ‘The Morning Show’ monitored by Prompt News.
He described Osimhen’s rant as unfortunate, adding that was not the Osimhen he knew and that he sees to him as a humble boy.
Prompt News recalls that Osimhen had in a live video on social media said, “I’ve lost respect for that man (Finidi). Now after two bad games, everybody is now blaming me. I know how many injuries I’ve played with for Nigeria and I played my heart out, but after two bad games, everybody is attacking me.”
Pinnick, who is gunning for a second term as FIFA Council member, says “Let me dwell on Osimhen’s case. It was quite unfortunate. That ranting was so unfortunate. I put a call through to Osimhen and I made him understand that I didn’t like what he did and he spoke to me with remorse. And I told him to channel his remorse to the appropriate quarters.
“Osimhen has always come to me, we discovered Osimhen. It was during my first tenure. In fact, that was the first trophy I won as the president of NFF when he led us to Chile and he was the highest goal scorer.
“I don’t know what went wrong. It was just a moment of madness so to speak. But, that is not the Osimhen that I know. Osimeh comes to me as a very humble boy, I don’t know others and we have maintained that relationship.
“Osihmen and other players should accord their coaches, their leaders some appreciable level of respect,” Pinnnick said. READ ALSO:
