A second half brace by Super Eagles emerging goalpoacher, Victor Osimhen and two other goals from Alex Iwobi and Samuel Chukwueze helped Nigeria to beat host, Lesotho 4-2 in the Match Day 2 of the on-going Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2021 qualifier tie held inside the Maseru-Setsoto Stadium.
But it was the Crocodiles as the Lesotho senior national football team is called that scared the Eagles on the day at their artificial turf when forward, Masoabi Nkoto beat Nigeria’s goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi with an 11th minute goal.
The lead by the home team however lasted for approximately 15 minutes before England-based Alexander Iwobi scored the equaliser to silence the home crowd. The goal came in the 26th minute from Victor Osimhen’s assist.
Nigeria seized the initiative to press high and 10 minutes later the third goal came off the boots of Vallareal of Spain winger, Samuel Chukwueze after being played in by Osimhen again. He scored in the 36th minute to make it 2-1 at the half time.
On resumption, Nigerian Coach, Gernot Rohr instructed his wards to go for the 3 points on offer and France- based striker, Victor Osimhen hit a brace with his goals coming in the 75th and 85th minutes respectively to make it 4-1with five minutes to the end of the game.
However, Eagles defender, Chidozie Awaziem gifted Lesotho the second goal after he scored against his own team in the 90th minute to bring the final score to Nigeria 4 and Lesotho 2.
By this result Nigeria is clearly ahead of three other countries in Group L with 6 points from two matches and plus 4 goals differences.
