The Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has elected its first female President.
She is Nigeria’s Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison Madueke.
Mrs. Alison Madueke was elected on Thursday at the 166th meeting of OPEC in Vienna, Austria.
She replaces Libya’s Vice Prime Minister for Corporations, Abdourhman Atahar Al-Ahirish, and will be in office for one year.
Prompt News recalls that Mrs Alison Madueke, had earlier signified interest in contesting the position of the Secretary General of the organization.
However, the election was differed till 2015, at the last meeting. The position of President offered her might as well be a compromise.
