By Gracious Akujobi President of Nigeria Cricket Federation, Emeka Onyeama has solicited for the inclusion of cricket in the National Youth Games.
“Inclusion of Cricket in the youth games will help discover talents in the country and also help to institutionalize the game to the young ones,” Onyeama told Prompt News Online.
He said further, “We are appealing to National Sports Commission (NSC) for the inclusion of cricket into national sports festivals and youth games as these will be the bedrock that will create developmental part way to our children in primary and secondary school”
“We have realized that we cannot do sports without youths and grassroots, that is why we need to go back to primary and secondary schools so as to catch them young whereby cricket will be made compulsory for secondary school.
“Sports is not all about football there are other sport that can create employment and generate money I must say cricket is second highest paying sport in the world” he stated.
Onyeama says his Federation was reaching out to corporate Nigeria to come to their assistance while pleading with government to provide them with funds to acquire the needed international standard facilities which will improve their game and help them attract sponsors.
