The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Ondo State Council, has suspended its indefinite strike, which began on January 31.
In a statement issued on Monday in Akure, the association’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Lucky Aremu, announced the suspension, citing progress in negotiations with the state government.
“NANNM hereby announces the suspension of the industrial action embarked upon by nurses in all state-owned public health institutions.
This decision follows a series of discussions with the Ondo State Government, which resulted in assurances to address our concerns,” he stated.
The key demands of the union include improved remuneration, enhanced welfare packages, resolution of conversion issues, and better working conditions.
Aremu expressed appreciation for the solidarity and resilience of members throughout the strike. He also thanked the public for their patience and understanding.
He directed all nurses and midwives in government-owned health facilities to resume work on Tuesday, while emphasizing that the association would remain vigilant to ensure the government fulfills its promises.
“While we have suspended the strike, we will closely monitor the situation. If the government fails to uphold its commitments, we will not hesitate to take necessary action,” Aremu warned.
