The Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Dele Olugbemi, has warned former speaker, Dr Adewale Omirin, against pushing people into contempt of court by asking them to intervene in the crisis in the Assembly.
He said this is because Omirin, who has gone to court to challenge his removal from office, should know that until the case is disposed off, nobody can comment on it.
Olugbemi, who spoke in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday, said Omirin’s comment that he would involve the National Assembly in the matter would only amount to contempt charges on his part and others.
“Omirin and his All Progressives Congress (APC) day dreamers ought to know that they have gone to court and until that case is disposed off, nothing can be done.
“They said they will drag the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwwal, to the matter, it is our belief that members of the National Assembly are not law breakers and will not engage in anything illegal and contemptuous of court proceedings.
“Let them wait until their case is decided or let them go and withdraw the case they filed themselves. They cannot eat their cake and have it at the same time. Peoples Democratic Party members of the Assembly are peace-loving and we want the progress of the state.
“We call on our APC colleagues to allow peace to reign. They cannot be saying one thing and be doing another thing by the side. They have given the police their word that they will allow peace to reign, let them put that into practice and not to stir up trouble in the state,” he said.
