An oil magnate, Alhaji Suleiman Mohammed, donated 600 litres of diesel to Federal University, Lafia, on Wednesday.
Mohammed said the diesel would help to address the issue of power outages in the institution.
He made the donation to Prof. Shehu AbdulRahman, the vice-chancellor of the university in the presence of some top management members of the varsity.
He noted that adequate power supply would improve on the standard of education at the institution.
Mohammed also said that he was passionate about the university, hence the need to donate the diesel to it.
According to him, the varsity needs steady power supply, but the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, responsible for supplying the power is not giving it enough.
The Lafia-born oil magnate noted that the varsity’s management was incapable of providing regular power supply and called on public-spirited individuals and groups to support it to address erratic power supply.
Responding, the vice-chancellor commended Mohammed for the gesture.
He expressed the varsity’s appreciation and said Mohammed had again set a fine example for other philanthropists to emulate.
Prof. AbdulRahman promised that the diesel would be put to good use at the university’s two campuses.
In his remarks, the Registrar of the institution, Malam Nuradeed Abdul, also expressed the university’s gratitude to Mohammed.
Abdul assured that the institution would make the best use of the diesel in line with the conviction of the donor. (NAN)
