Ogun Government on Friday called for active participation of corporate organisations and individuals in the state’s education sector for improved academic performance.
The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, made the call in Abeokuta, at the inauguration of the Nestlé Community Water Projects for Healthier Kids (N4HK).
The water projects were donated to Oke-Ona United School, Abeokuta and Saint Paul’s Anglican School, Obafemi Owode by the Nestle Nigeria Plc.
Arigbabu said that no government could single-handedly underwrite the cost of sound and effective education for its citizenry.
He commended the firm for its contributions toward the development of education sector through its Social Corporate Responsibility (CSR).
“No government can do it alone when it comes to providing quality education.
“It is in view of this that the state government is filled with gratitude to the Nestle Nigeria Plc for the donation of water and sanitation projects to our schools under the N4HK programme.
“Your responsiveness to the Corporate Social Responsibility is laudable and worthy of emulation,” he said.
Earlier, the Chairman, Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr Femi Majekodunmi, said that the initiative would complement the ongoing efforts of the state government in improving the standard of education.
Majekodunmi appreciated the organisation for a show of good neighbourliness, urging the benefited schools to judiciously utilise and maintain the facilities.
In her remarks, Mrs Victoria Uwadoka, the Nestlé Corporate Communications and Public Affairs Manager, explained that clean water and toilet were crucial in schools due to the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic.
Uwadoka explained that the organisation decided to provide the facilities to safeguard the pupils against contracting the virus. (NAN)
