The Ogun Government has assured commercials banks, particularly those in Ijebu-Ode, Ijebu-Igbo and Sagamu Local Government Areas, of the state of adequate security to enhance their operations.
Gov. Dapo Abiodun, gave the assurance on Thursday at a meeting with bankers, security chiefs and other stakeholders in Abeokuta.
Abiodun, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Tokunbo Talabi, stated that the government had evolved strategies that would make the state safer, particularly around financial institutions.
The governor, who described banks as “the heart of commerce” in any state, said that the government had stepped up measures to ensure that the banks went about their businesses without any fear or apprehension.
” Necessary support have been given to the security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, to foil and combat crimes so that officials and customers of banks can go about their normal activities without any apprehension.
“I want to assure our bankers, most especially the ones in Ijebu and Remo axis, of government’s commitment to providing adequate protection concerning their operations,” he said.
In their separate remarks, the security chiefs who noted that they had the constitutional role to aid civil authority in the state, pledged their readiness to effectively discharge their duties.
The security chiefs in attendance were Brig-Gen. Adewale Adekoya, the Commander, 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala Barracks, Abeokuta, Mr. David Tulsa, the State Director, Department of State Services (DSS) and DCP Abiodun Alamutu, the Acting Commissioner of Police, Ogun Command,
In his remarks, the Chairman, Ogun Bankers’ Forum, Mr. Olusegun Olusoga, appreciated the government for responding to their request by beefing up security around premises of banks
Speaking earlier, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, AIG Olusola Subair (Rtd), said that the meeting was convened to deliberate on security issues in Ijebu axis, particularly, the safety of banks, staff and the of the area in general.(NAN)
