As part of measures to improve access to health care for all residents in Ogun State, irrespective of their socio-economic status, the Ogun State government, in collaboration with one of its implementing partners, APIN Public Health Initiatives, has commissioned a new fully-equipped comprehensive healthcare facility named a One-Stop Shop (OSS).
The facility is located within the premises of the Ogun State Agency for the Control of AIDs (SACA) in Abeokuta.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, represented by the Special Adviser on Health to the Ogun State Governor, Dr Tayo Lawal during the official commissioning of the facility, noted that the state has seen a steady increase in the number of people living with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) who have been put on life-saving Antiretroviral Therapy (ART).
She mentioned that the government’s partnership with APIN was aimed at sustaining the progress made towards achieving epidemic control of HIV/AIDs in the state.
Coker added that the OSS is a specialized health facility where the underserved populations who are most at risk of getting infected with HIV can access comprehensive and uninterrupted treatment in a safe, friendly and conducive environment.
The Ogun SACA Executive Secretary, Dr. Kehinde Fatungase, who was the host for the occasion, described the Agency’s collaboration with APIN as robust and productive, adding that the implementing partner had been a supporting pillar for the control of HIV/AIDS in the state.
Also speaking, the Chief Executive Officer, APIN Public Health Initiatives, Dr. Prosper Okonkwo, who was represented by the Associate Director, Community and Prevention Services, Dr. Olabanjo Ogunsola, urged the government to consider replicating the One-Stop facility in other strategic locations in the state to scale up access to care for underserved populations living in remote areas of the state.
