The Monarch of the varsity town of Akungba community, in Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State, Kabiyesi Oba Isaac Sunday Adeyeye, Ajimo III, the Alale of Akungba Kingdom, marked half a decade on the throne this past Saturday, February 26, with strong social impact and fanfare.
The week-long historic fifth Coronation Anniversary of the Alale, who was crowned 23 February 2017, commenced last Monday with the naming of the main highway in the host town to Adekunle Ajasin University, AAUA, after an illustrious son of the town, the late former Governor of Ondo State, Chief Adebayo Adefarati.
The busy road that traversed the fast urbanising town, is now officially registered with Government and commissioned by the paramount ruler, his high chiefs and other leaders of the community as: ADEBAYO ADEFARATI WAY.
Between Monday February 21and Friday 25, were series of colorful and useful events, such as Youths Brass Band Parade on Tuesday; Free Medical Outreach on Wednesday; installation of new chiefs on Thursday; Friday featured cultural exhibitions and Masquerades parade; whilst Saturday was the D-Day for royal glitz, glamour and glitterati.
A rich array of superlative cultural dances and eulogies were done by excellent performers while music was supplied by Mega99, a Lagos-based A-list Juju artiste, who painted the town red with his scintillating songs and upbeat percussions.
Meanwhile the grand occasion, attended by over 20 royals in Ondo State, was filled with pomp and pageantry that saw different sets of guests and residents bedecked in assorted ‘aso ebi’, led by the 37 Chiefs, women groups and senior citizens.
The celebrating royal couple, the Alale and his beautiful Olori, Esther Ajimo, was the cynosure of all eyes, in their thoroughly packaged beaded crown and royal paraphernalia.
The Olori’s Igbin (snail) hairdo, was symbolic of an African Queen. It drew her a round of applause.
Amidst the sea of tributes and eulogies, the Royal Father of the Day and Chairman of Obas in Akoko South West, Kabiyesi Oba Yussuf Adebori Adeleye. OON, the Olubaka of Akoko, remarked:
“Since my loyal royal the Alale joined us in the Council of Obas five years ago, he has added immense value to the union, through intelligent discussions and innovative ideas. It is hard believe that he has not been up to 20 years on the Throne.”
Other royals were full of praise for the humble and simple Alale of Akungba.
Responding, HRM Alale, the 15th in Akungba Kingdom, thanked everyone for their show of love and support.
“I am resolved to uniting our community, provide visionary and progressive leadership, by working with government and my people in the pursuit of peace, security and development in our community.
“My next task is to drive the task of building a befitting Palace for our Varsity community. And i need all hands on deck. A great palace is a custody for customs and tradition. It is a monument for the community.”
