The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has concluded plans to begin its 2021 zonal preliminaries of sports and cultural festivals, to promote national unity and integration.
A statement by Mr Suleiman Aliyu, Public Relations Officer, NYSC, in Bauchi, on Monday announced that Brig.-Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, the Director General of NYSC, had approved the commencement of the festivals.
According to him, the festival aimed at sharpening the sporting skills of corps members, learn about the cultural backgrounds of other tribes, would hold between Sept. 22 and Sept. 25, across six zones of Osun, Enugu, Delta, Jigawa, Bauchi states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Aliyu said that the states to compete in the Bauchi zone included; Adamawa, Borno, Gombe, Jigawa, Taraba and Yobe states.
He added that corps members from these states would be competing in football, volleyball, track events (athletics), dance, drama, as well as comedy.
“Winners of the preliminary stage will qualify for the finals, which will be decided in Abuja on a date to be announced later.
“The opening ceremony and official flag-off of the competition will hold on Wednesday, 22 Sept. 2021,” he said. (NAN)
