Following resumption of negotiation, the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) at the weekend suspended its planned nationwide strike billed to commence by midnight on Sunday, February 23.
The association however, issued fresh seven-day ultimatum within which the Federal Government is expected to reach agreement with the Union on the implementation of the Industrial Arbitration court judgment.
Abdulrafiu Adeniji, NANNM National President who disclosed this at the end of the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja, said a committee has been set up to look into the implementation of the judgment.
The national president however, warned that the association would proceed on strike should government fails to meet their demands after seven days.
Prompt News recalls that the association last week Wednesday issued a notice of industrial actions over the federal government’s failure to implement the 34-year Industrial Court judgement.
Some of the pending issues are :The commencement of internship for graduates of the Bachelor of Nursing Science degree programme in Nigeria so that this would be binding on all states of the Federation; The inclusion of the internship post/grade for graduate Nurses in the Scheme of Service of the Federation so that the Nurse internships could be remunerated during the period of internship; That graduates Nurses be properly placed in the scheme of the federation on entry into Civil Service of the Federation; and That all Registered Nurses/Midwives with professional qualifications of RN/RM be allowed to progress to the peak of the career.
“Therefore, we call on all our members nation-wide to remain calm and continue in their civic duties of caring for the sick and wounded, “the association announced in a statement.
