The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted approval to the Precious Cornerstone University (PCU), Ibadan,Oyo State, to begin five additional academic programmes.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Kola Oloke, made this known in a statement on Wednesday in Ibadan.
Oloke said the news was cheering, promising that efforts would always be geared toward making the institution a world class university.
According to him, the accreditation is coming after NUC granted full operational licence to the faith-based tertiary institution few months back.
He listed the newly accredited undergraduate courses to
include: Cyber Security; Software Engineering; Procurement Management; Mass Communication and International Relations.
“The NUC, in a letter signed by the body’s Director of Planning, Dr. Noel Saliu, on behalf of the Executive Secretary, Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, dated Nov. 8, 2021, with reference number: NUC/AP/P72/Vol1/05, addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, PCU, Prof. Kola Oloke, conveyed the approval,” he said.
Oloke said that approval of the five new courses for the university, came on the heels of the Resource Assessment visit carried out in August, 2021.
“According to the NUC, the approved courses, which shall commence in the university at the current academic session, shall be run on full-time basis,” he said.
The vice-chancellor said the NUC had urged the university management to “provide adequate human and material resources for the development and growth of the approved programmes”.
He said PCU currently runs 12 courses under the Faculties of Pure and Applied Sciences, Social and Management Sciences.
The undergraduate programmes, currently being offered in the university include: Microbiology, Biochemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Industrial Mathematics, Computer Science and Physics with Electronics.
Others are: Accounting, Actuarial Science, Business Administration, Banking and Finance, Marketing and Economics. (NAN)
