Dauda Ibrahim of Oyo state has won the 59kg category of the men’s para-powerlifting in the ongoing 19th national sports festival in Abuja, claiming gold medal
Rufai Olalekan from Rivers,who won silver medal, expressed happiness over his performance.
“I want to take first position but I could not lift up to Dauda that took first. I have tried my best to win silver medal for my state,” he said.
Ibrahim told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that he was also glad that he won gold Gold for his attack state.
He,however, called for more completion for improved outing in subsequent tournaments.
“We are appealing to the federation to organise more para-powerlifting in zonal competition so that we can improve on our talent.
“I’m happy that I made my state proud in this competition,”he said.
Robert Abbey from Delta, whobwon Bronze, said he needed a little effort that could have aided me to win the first position.
“This is because I did not have enough strength to lift in the second and third round,’’ he said.
NAN reports that festival, which kicked-off on Dec.6 will end on Dec.16.
