Patrick Onyedum, Chairman of Anambra Sports Development Commission (ASDC) has called on the Local Organising Committee of the 21st National Sports Festival in Delta to improve on its accommodation and logistic arrangements.
Onyedum made the call at the Ogwashi-Ukwu mini stadium where he watched his teams compete in some events.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some of the events taking place at the venue were football, basketball and handball.
Onyedum said though there were no perfect conditions, the condition of accommodation was far from what the LOC assured the contingents and that it was unfortunate that four days into the festival, there were no official transport arrangements to ease movement of teams to venues.
According to him, “we met with the LOC and they said we should do our part, that we have done but we are not seeing some of the arrangements they promised.
“Our accommodations are not in the best conditions and burden of moving athletes to the various venues is on us; that is additional discomfort though they have said they will start transportation soon,” he said.
Onyedum thanked Gov. Chukwuma Soludo for making it possible for the team to participate at the festival while promising that they would return with good laurel records.
He tasked Anambra athletes and coaches to look beyond the challenges and remain focused on their resolve to do the state proud.
He thanked them for their good behaviour at the festival, saying that so far, they had been good ambassadors.
“In sports, anything is possible and nobody can have it all; like I said, we want to win as many gold medals as we can but we are not under pressure.
“The government of Soludo is building sports from the scratch, we are developing the sports from the grassroots so tomorrow is greener for sports in Anambra,” he said. (NAN)
