The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Benue Command says it will open more divisions to safeguard the lives and property of the people and government assets in the state.
The Corps Commandant in the state, Mr Philip Okoh stated this when members of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Benue Council visited him on Wednesday in Makurdi.
He said that the corps was making concerted efforts to change the security dynamics of Benue by getting security closer to the people.
Okoh said that peace could only be maintained and sustained if response time on distress calls was reduced by getting security closer to the people.
He enjoined journalists to ensure accurate reportage of events to avoid misinforming members of the public.
Earlier, Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Mr Tor Acka, assured the command of the chapel’s partnership to fight crimes in the state.
The chairman called for the cooperation of the command in order to achieve the desired result.
He commended the corps for their effort in combating crimes in the state.(NAN)
