The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun Command, on Thursday said it took into its custody and offered basic medical aid to a 17-year-old boy found roaming the streets of Osogbo naked.
The command’s Spokesperson, Atanda Olabisi, said in a statement said that NSCDC officials were alerted by a resident that a naked boy, whose hands were tied to the back was spotted roaming the Osogbo-Ibadan highway.
“At about 11.16 am, on Wednesday, a middle aged man, from Owode, Ede, reported to the Ede North LCDA Division of the NSCDC that a teenage boy was found roaming about along the Osogbo-Ibadan highway naked while his hands are tied to his back.
Olabisi said the NSCDC Divisional Officer in Ede, later took the boy to his office for questioning and medical observations.
“The boy was initially thought to be mentally ill, but after questioning him, it was realised that he has no mental health challenges.
“The boy was found with his hands tied to his back and he also had bruises on his head, which is suspected that he was beaten by person(s) yet to be identified.
“But after first aid treatment by the medical team of the divisional office, he was interrogated and he said his name is Ademola Sunday from Inisha, Onira’s compound.
“His name and picture was later sent to the said compound but no one seems to recognse him there,” she said
Olabisi said the boy’s case had, however, been handed over to the Osun Ministry for Women Affairs, from where he was taken to the correctional and rehabilitation centre in Osogbo, with the hope of reuniting him with his parents.
The spokesperson commended the community people for their vigilance, swift report of the case to the authorities and urged residents to continue to report suspicious movements to the civil defence office nearest to them for quick intervention. (NAN)
