The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun Command, has deployed 1,575 personnel for crime prevention and protection of lives and property during the Easter celebration in the state.
Mr Kehinde Adeleke, Public Relation Officer, NSCDC, said this in a statement on Thursday in Osogbo.
The statement said NSCDC’s personnel had been placed on the major roads across the state.
It added that patrol teams and surveillance squads would cover critical national assets, worship centres, recreation centres, markets, motor parks and shopping malls for adequate security of lives and property.
The statement also quoted the state commandant of the corps, Mr Sunday Agboola, as urging members of the public to be security conscious and report any strange movement in their environment to security agencies.
“The Commandant on behalf of the entire officers and men heartily rejoices with and felicitates all Christians in the state as they celebrate this year’s Easter.
“I encourage them to propagate peace, demonstrate love, forgiveness and tolerance irrespective of religious inclination,” he said.
Similarly, eight suspects were arrested and paraded by the corps for bypassing electricity supply in their residents.
According to the statement, the suspects were arrested in a sting operation with the officials of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBDEC) at various locations in Osogbo for electricity theft.
It said the suspects were arrested at Ogo-Oluwa/Alekuwodo axis in Osogbo, based on credible information of engaging in bypassing electricity supply to their residents to avoid necessary payment.
The statement said the NSCDC commandant, while parading the suspects said the command was ready to curb activities of vandals, economic saboteurs in the state, adding that there was zero tolerance for crime under his watch.
He promised that the men and officers of the command would redouble their efforts to stop the activities of those willing to vandalise critical national infrastructure.
The NSCDC boss also charged members of the public to desist from acts capable of throwing the state into darkness and economic hardship.(NAN)
