The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Edo Command, on Tuesday decorated 207 newly promoted senior officers in the command with their new ranks.
Mr Gbenga Agun, the state Commandant of the Corps, while decorating the officers in Benin, said that the new rank was a call to higher responsibilities, dedication, efficiency and effectiveness.
“You must gird your loins to justify the responsibilities given to you. Be available at all times to fly the flag of the corps.
“The popular saying of ‘to him more is given, much is expected’ comes to play here.
“Be motivated by your achievements; get affiliated with the challenges of your new rank, departmental members.
“Gain trust of your colleagues, and motivate yourself to fulfilling the basic needs of realising your potential of reaching the peak of your personal growth and experiences,” he said.
The commandant said that the corps was taking a more positive outlook of employees, hence the belief in their skills and professionalism.
“Do not expect to be forced to achieve organisational objectives, efforts in work should be seen as natural between work and play.
“Much is expected of you and you must deliver.
“To those awaiting promotion, be more zealous, productive, don’t forget that performance evaluation on the job is part of the criteria for promotion,” he said.
Agun said that the corps was watching and would definitely reward as and when due.
Speaking on behalf of the promoted officers, a Deputy Commandant, Nelson Adetan, said that the gesture would be reciprocated with more dedication and hard work.
Adetan commended the corps for finding them worthy of the elevation.
