By Gracious Akujobi The Director General of the National Sports Commission, Gbenga Elegebeleye has reacted to the conflicting report in the media concerning the NFF elections which was said to have been annulled by the Appeals Committee chairman, Okey Ajunwa.
In a release signed by the Special Assistant on Media to the Minister of Sports, Patrick Omorodion, made available to Prompt News, the Elegbeleye stated that the Commission has accepted the report of members of the Appeals Committee which upheld the election of Amaju Pinnick as President of NFF.
The release reads, “The National Sports Commission, NSC, has noted the conflicting reports of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Appeals Committee on the cases brought before it by some contestants of the September 30, 2014 election of the football body held in Warri, Delta State.
“However, the Director General of the NSC, Gbenga Elegbeleye reacting yesterday said the Commission will accept the majority decision of the Appeals Committee which threw out the petitions against the election and upheld the election of Amaju Pinnick and other members of the NFF Board.
“The NSC will accept the majority decision of the Appeals Committee because it is the civilized judicial norm and we must not be seen to apply it the other way round with a minority report holding sway,” Elegbeleye said.
“By this position, the NSC recognizes the election of the Amaju Pinnick-led Board as the Director-General urges all football stakeholders to support the Board in its bid to reposition football in the country.”
