Hard-fighting Heartland Football Club mounted a great comeback to snatch victory in a 3-2 defeat of the visiting Nasarawa United in a Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Week 15 match played at Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri on Sunday.
The Naze Millionaires went in front early in the match when forward Promise Anyanwu struck in the 15th minute to the joy of the home fans who came out in their numbers to support their team but two minutes into the added time, the visitors equalised through Anas Yusuf in 45+2nd minute as the first half ended a goal apiece.
On resumption, Emmanuel Amuneke-tutored Heartland applied maximum pressure to get more goals but it was Nasarawa United who got their noses in front when Abubakar Garba made it 1-2 on the day in the 85th minute.
With a second defeat in a week starring the home team in the face, Heartland switched gear and went on total offensive which yield positive results in the 88th minute when attacking midfielder Surajdeen Lawal drew the hosts level with a fine finish.
However, it was Christian Molokwu who ensured that Amuneke, a former African Best Footballer of the Year Award Winner’s team grabbed the full points when he scored the winning goal in the 90+2nd minute.
The goal was greeted with wild jubilation around the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri as fans celebrated as if Heartland has won the league diadem.
With the victory, Heartland is currently occupying the 10th position in the NPFL table having won five matches, drawn five and lost same number, although the club went five matches without losing a game.
