Determined to see that the much- talked about Not Too Young To Run Bill sent to the Executive arm of the government for presidential assent, members of the movement have given President Muhammadu Buhari one week ultimatum within which to sign the bill into law.
Giving the ultimatum at a Press Conference in Abuja today, Monday, members of the group’s Strategic Team said that Nigerians are wondering why it is taking President Buhari a long time to assent to the bill which seeks to reduce the age of contesting for elective positions from the present 30 years for States House of Assembly to 25 years and from 40 years for the office of President to 35 years.
Represented by Ms Beila Ann Ndubuisi, Fredrick Adetiba and Samson Itodo, the Strategic Team alleged that the bill which was passed by the National Assembly after about 32 State Assemblies passed it too may not be assented to in time for young people to participate in the forthcoming General Elections in Nigeria.
They said that they are however optimistic that the President will do the needful before May 29 Democracy Day to show that he means well for Nigerian youth.
They threatened that if the President does not pass the bill on time the Group will resort to any civil option available to it to actualize their dream.
The Group asked political parties to uphold the principles of democratic rules to ensure equity and fair play.
